The WTA's Middle East swing is quickly turning into Iga Swiatek's happiest hunting ground, as the top seed and defending champion continued her dominant run at Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships with a 6-1, 6-0 rout of No. 14 seed Liudmila Samsonova on Wednesday.

Bouncing back emphatically after falling in the fourth round at the Australian Open, the world No. 1 reclaimed her title at the Qatar TotalEnergies Open last week without dropping a set, and has torn through the draw in Dubai to reach the semifinals. In fact, as Portuguese tennis journalist Jose Morgado pointed out on Twitter, Swiatek has only lost a total of eight games in her last five matches.

It's a stat that impressed even former world No. 1 Andy Murray, who took to social media on Wednesday to declare: "She is different."

“And you are a resilience role model and an inspiration on [so] many levels,” Swiatek later tweeted in response. “Thank you for everything that you do for this sport.”

It's not the first time that Murray and Swiatek trade compliments on social media: In 2021, Murray invited Swiatek to join him at his Indian Wells practice session after she named him as her "dream" hitting parter during a Tennis Channel interview.

This week, both players won their respective opening matches—though they took opposite roads to get there.

Top seed Swiatek took down former US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez 6-1, 6-1 in the second round of Dubai, while Murray had to save three match points in a dramatic battle with Lorenzo Sonego, 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (4) in Doha.

Swiatek, who is seeking her second consecutive Dubai trophy, moved into the semifinals after receiving a walkover from Karolina Pliskova (viral illness) and awaits the winner of Madison Keys and Coco Gauff. Murray faces Alexander Zverev in the round of 16 on Wednesday.
