After practicing together before the tournament. Aryna Sabalenka and Ons Jabeur will face off for a spot in the 2023 Wimbledon final—and the pre-match banter has already begun.

“I saw she won very quick, which I wasn’t happy with!” Jabeur joked after playing a longer match to avenge her 2022 final defeat against Elena Rybakina in three sets.

It turns out Sabalenka was watching the match conclude and was quick to reply to the popular Tunisian in her post-match press conference.

“I was in the locker room watching her interview sending kisses and love,” Sabalenka laughed after her straight-set victory over Madison Keys.

“I think she was just joking. She's very nice girl. She has such a good sense of humor. I don't think it's going to give me any advantage…It's going to be great battle, tough match. Doesn't matter what she said, she's just fun girl.”

Sabalenka has won her last three matches against Jabeur, dating back to their Wimbledon quarterfinal clash back in 2021, which the No. 2 seed claimed to advance into her first career Grand Slam semifinal. Two years later and both Sabalenka and Jabeur have been past the semifinal stage, with the former capturing her maiden major victory at the Australian Open and Jabeur reaching back-to-back finals last summer—making each a formidable opponent for the other.

“She has really good touch,” said Sabalenka of Jabeur. “Especially on the grass court, all her slices, dropshots work really well here on grass court.

“I feel like mentally she's really strong. She's making the history. I think this is the biggest motivation for her. That's why she's really doing well this season, and especially here at Wimbledon. I think her tricky game is really, really challenging to play against.”

Sabalenka has a chance to make some history of her own, standing a win away from becoming the 29th woman to become WTA world No. 1.

In the meantime, it’s all kisses and love between the friendly rivals.
