Bee hive, rise up!

Barbora Strycova is planning a renaissance of her own, sharing her physical transformation and practice with countrywoman Petra Kvitova in the lead-up to what looks to be a return to action.

“See you on courts in summer,” the former WTA doubles No. 1 wrote on Instagram Wednesday morning. “Again.”

Strycova made an unexpected exit from the game in 2021 when she and longtime partner Petr Matejcek revealed she was pregnant with her first child—giving birth to son Vincent later that fall—but the fan favorite had promised a proper on-court farewell at some point in the future.

“I want to come back and play one more match in front of spectators,” she explained shortly after her retirement press conference. “I want to feel their energy, from the crowd, from the club, all of that love. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a real match or an exhibition so long as it’s in front of a crowd.”

Given the timing of her planned return, it’s fair to guess Strycova aims to play at least one more Wimbledon Championships, where she reached the singles semifinal and won the doubles title in 2019.
