Blondes have more fun? Not according to Aryna Sabalenka at Australian Open

Put some respect on her name ... hair! Two-time defending champion Aryna Sabalenka has been practically perfect through four rounds of the Australian Open, but her animated counterpart in the tournament's innovative animated livestream has one major flaw.

She's a blonde.

Tennis Australia's AO Animated simulcast on YouTube has been the talk of the tournament so far, as the governing body was forced to get creative to show matches in full on its channels due to broadcast restrictions. Sensors track players' real-time movements, which are then reproduced on a two-minute delay, and audio is synced for commentary, crowd noise, and even player grunts and reactions.

But "skins" were created to represent players, chair umpires and ball people, and that might be why Sabalenka is "looking a little different" in animated form.

"Need to know who designed my character," quipped the world No. 1, famously a brunette, on Instagram after routing Mirra Andreeva 6-1, 6-2 on Sunday in Melbourne to win her 18th straight match at the Australian Open.

On the whole, though, the initiative has been a success, with Tennis Australia touting to the Associated Press that the live stream had 950,000 views over the first four days of the tournament compared to roughly 140,000 in the same window last year.

While Leylah Fernandez got a good chuckle out of accidentally finding the cartoon version of a match she'd hope to scout, Daria Kasatkina, the tour's resident content creator, was among those impressed at the production value.

"I don't know how it works. I was wondering how this thing is working because it's in the real time," the What the Vlog? co-host said after beating Yulia Putintseva in the third round on Friday.

"First, I was concerned. Is it just, like, I don't know, sometimes on YouTube they do a re-game of the match, like whatever games. I was, like, 'No, but it's the point, which was just right now.' Daniil is hitting the net. I'm, like, 'Wow, it's interesting," Kasatkina continued.

"Some of them are so funny also. I think it's nice. It's something new, also. It's for free. [The] more things like this we have, I think it's better because it's interesting for the people because everyone is different. Some people prefer to watch animation than to watch [a] real match, I think, for example. So I think that's fun."
