Love at first sight: Casper Ruud and red clay reunite at the Monte Carlo Masters

Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud are the latest confirmed pairing for the revamped mixed doubles at the 2025 US Open, the USTA confirming the news on Tuesday.

Neither Swiatek, the 2022 women’s singles champion, nor Ruud, who finished runner-up in Flushing Meadows the same year, are frequent doubles players—Swiatek finished runner-up at United Cup alongside Hubert Hurkacz earlier this year. But Swiatek and Ruud first showed signs of a budding friendship this spring when the latter expressed support for the former following the former world No. 1’s defeat at the Mutua Madrid Open.

“Like millions of other people I love watching you play,” Ruud wrote on X after Swiatek lost to Coco Gauff at the Caja Magica.

Swiatek later hinted the two had firmed up plans to compete in mixed at the US Open, which will take place prior to the singles event during the tournament’s annual Fan Week. The 16-team draw will compete over two days for a $1 million-dollar prize, a follow-up to the US Open’s successful Mixed Madness night that awarded champions Paula Badosa and Stefanos Tsitsipas $500,000 for their victory in 2024.

In addition to Swiatek and Ruud, Alex de Minaur expressed interest in competing in the mixed event alongside fiancée Katie Boulter at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.

“Me personally, I really enjoy playing mixed doubles, so I think it's going to be fun to hopefully play some mixed with Katie, which will be exciting,” said the Aussie, who is currently ranked No. 10.
