Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev post up a storm from Barcelona Grand Prix

FLASHBACK: Thiago Seyboth Wild stuns Daniil Medvedev in the first round of 2023 Roland Garros.

It's well-known that world No. 2 Daniil Medvedev is a huge fan of motorsport, and after his early exit from Roland Garros he took advantage of the extra time off to enjoy a weekend at the races.

Joined by countryman Andrey Rublev, Medvedev was spotted at the Formula One Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona, where he enjoyed a behind-the-scenes look at the action. The stars were out in full force, with musicians like Shakira and Martin Garrix seen around the grounds, along with a number of soccer stars, including Robert Lewandowski and Joao Felix—who stopped for selfies with Medvedev and Rublev.

It’s not the first tennis-Formula 1 crossover in recent memory, as drivers were regular fixtures during the Rolex Monte Carlo Masters—with Ferrari ace Charles Leclerc sitting front row for Rublev’s rollercoaster run to the title.

“Race weekend in Barcelona!” Medvedev shared on Twitter, along with a photo from inside the Ferrari paddock.

The Russian recently took part in the World Stars Football match with Leclerc and company—in a charity event that pits Formula 1 drivers against other sports athletes—and last year, he swapped his racquets for karts with driver Alex Albon.

While their clay-court seasons might have come to an end earlier than expected, there’s been plenty for Medvedev and Rublev to be proud of after making major strides forward on the surface.

Medvedev, the No. 2 seed, was stunned in the opening round of Roland Garros by world No. 172 Thiago Seyboth Wild after a rollercoaster 7-6 (5), 6-7 (6), 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 defeat. But earlier in the season he turned heads with his victory at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, where he claimed his first clay-court title at the ATP Masters 1000.

Meanwhile, Rublev won his long-awaited first ATP Masters 1000 title in Monte Carlo and followed it up with a doubles win in Madrid with Karen Khachanov. At Roland Garros, he bowed out in the third round to Lorenzo Sonego after a masterful 5-7, 0-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5), 6-3 comeback.

Medvedev will be back in action as the top seed at the ATP 250 grass-court event in s’Hertogenbosch, before he and Rublev head to Halle, an ATP 500 tournament.
