Demure or De Minaur? Andrey Rublev and more attempt viral social media trend at Ultimate Tennis Showdown 

NEW YORK—We got the ultimate exclusive at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown.

After some convincing, a very mindful field of UTS competitors gave us demure, very demure, as part of the latest TikTok trend.

But first, a vocab lesson.

“De Minaur? It's the last name of Alex,” Andrey Rublev interpreted. Following a brief explanation of de-mure, he clarified, “The words shy and cool are opposite, it depends on the situation.”

Rublev and Denis Shapovalov provided a lovely one-swing attempt, Rublev with a hand on the hip. Demure indeed.

Casper Ruud gave his own interpretation, showing a more condensed wave-looking swing along the hip as opposed to a large take back and follow-through. Nick Kyrgios honed in on the shyness of the explanation, giving a little swing and a reserved walk off frame

Stefanos Tsitsipas got into character and gave us a very demure performance.

While most players had never heard of the trend, it was De Minaur himself who knew exactly what we were looking for. He turned his body, shadowed a slow-motion forehand, and made direct eye contact with the camera.
