Djokovic recalls air balloon proposal near fail

Novak Djokovic is in Croatia this week competing in second leg of his Adria Tour. The world No. 1 is undefeated so far, and will play in Sunday night's final. Supporting him, as always, is his wife Jelena Djokovic.

Novak and Jelena Djokovic have been a longtime power couple on tour. The Serbians began dating back in 2005 as teens and got married in 2014. They welcomed a son named Stefan soon after followed by a daughter named Tara in 2017.

It hasn't always been so smooth for the duo. Djokovic's proposal to Jelena was meant to be a grand gesture but it nearly ended in disaster.

On "In Depth with Graham Besinger", Djokovic shared how he planned to pop the question in a hot air ballon with another ballon dropping a big banner that read: "Will you marry me?"

"When he finally manages to unwrap it, he burns the balloon,"  Jelena Djokovic said. "And then the thing falls down, and I'm reading it slowly, but I'm like, 'It’s a commercial. Is he crazy? It’s 7 a.m.'"

Despite the chaos, Novak Djokovic managed to get down on one knee and achieve his goal.

"She keeps on telling me she knows me so well that I can’t surprise her," he said "But I'm really really glad  that I managed to surprise her that time when I needed to."
