Novak Djokovic has come under fire recently for hosting the Adria Tour during the COVID-19 pandemic without proper safety precautions. Multiple players have contracted the virus, including Grigor Dimtirov, Viktor Troicki, Borna Coric and Djokovic himself.

Novak's father Srdjan has come to his son's defense.

“How did the infection come about? Probably because Dimitrov came sick, who knows where,” Srdjan Djokovic told broadcaster RTL. “He was not tested in Zadar, but somewhere else. I don’t think that’s right.

"He brought great harm to you in Croatia, and to us as a family, and to Serbia.”

Despite recent events, Djokovic is still the world No. 1 and in contention for the greatest of all time, and his family has his back no matter what. The Serbian's back story is complex, and he recently appeared on the Graham Bensinger show to share more of it with the world.

Novak's mother Dijana discussed how the family completely focused their efforts on training Novak, even though her two younger sons also wanted to play tennis.

"Sometimes I'm thinking that my other two sons was in a way sacrificed, in a way, because we couldn't invest in three kids at that time, only one," she said. "Everything was about Nole, we were living his life."

Djokovic also revealed that his family considered changing nationalities when he was 14 since representing England could provide him with better opportunities.

"Well fortunately for us, I was doing really well in the national tournaments...I got spotted by tennis agents and we got offered to switch nationalities to British," Djokovic said. "it was very tempting [because of finances]."

As the Djokovic family navigates the aftermath of the Adria Tour, they'll find solace in sticking together.

“It is terrible and scary what the media] writes, but we are used to it," [Dijana Djokovic told *Blic*."It was as if they could hardly wait. They are obviously bothered by Novak."

Novak's wife Jelena also tested positive for COVID-19, but their two children as well as Dijana and Srdjan were negative. The rest of the Adria Tour has been cancelled.

"We all feel well, as do the two of them," Dijana Djokovic told Blic. "Just because Novak is positive doesn't mean he's sick. He is a young and healthy man, so it is easier to bear."
