Doubles Take, US Open Edition: Men's semifinals

Doubles takes center stage at the US Open today and best of all for the fans, it’s free.

The annual US Open Community Day is going on with general admission to the late-stage doubles action around the grounds—including the wheelchair doubles matches on Arthur Ashe Stadium. The men’s doubles semifinals are on tap, as well as two women’s doubles quarterfinal matches that were postponed by the rain on Wednesday.

One team did manage to sneak through: Lucie Safaraova and Barbora Strycova. The Czechs took three sets and two courts to defeat Gabriela Dabrowski and Yifan Xu. They’ll take on their countrywomen Katerina Siniakova and Lucie Hradecka next.

Here’s a look at some of the doubles action set for Thursday.

Henri Kontinen/John Peers (1) vs. Jean-Julien Rojer/Horia Tecau (12)

The two Slam-winning teams (Kontinen/Peers, Australian Open 2017, and Rojer/Tecau, Wimbledon 2015) have split their two meetings this year. Both duos have only lost one set between them during this year’s tournament and have had some dominant performances during their runs.

Bob Bryan/Mike Bryan (5) vs. Feliciano Lopez/Marc Lopez (11)

The Bryan brothers have seen and done it all over the course of their careers: In their 23rd US Open, they remain contenders for the title. Their opponents are major titlists themselves who won’t be intimidated by the prospect of facing the most accomplished men’s doubles team of all time at their home Slam. It should be an action-packed contest.

The men’s and women’s champions doubles events kick off today with a slew of Grand Slam winners showing what took them to such lofty heights.
