The enemy of my enemy is my friend? Not quite, but the evolution of Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios' friendship took another step on Day 4 of the Australian Open.

It's no secret that each man's opinion on the other has undergone a metamorphosis in recent years—and the hatchet between the two was officially buried after last year's Wimbledon final, where Djokovic dubbed their relationship a "bromance" after defeating Kyrgios for the title on Centre Court. Over the last year, while an injured Kyrgios has done commentary for Tennis Channel, ESPN and other, he's praised the 24-time Grand Slam champion with superlatives like "super-human," "an alien from another planet," and "the best player to ever touch a racquet."

On Wednesday, after Djokovic went head-to-head with a heckler during a dramatic four-set win over Kyrgios' countryman Alexei Popyrin, the Aussie was ready to back his bro up again.

Speaking to Eurosport's Barbara Schett in Melbourne after his victory, with Kyrgios calling in from a studio, Djokovic sent the still-recoveting Kyrgios well wishes, and proposed they play doubles when he returns to the tour. Kyrgios agreed, but conditionally: If another spectator was to step out of line, he joked that the pair should take a different tack.

"Let's do WWE in the crowd, I'll get that guy out of here," he said.

"I'd love that. Get a popcorn and watch," Djokovic replied, laughing.

Later, in his post-match press conference, Djokovic (not in so many words) admitted to taking some inspiration from Kyrgios, too. The world No. 1 said he needed some outside-the-lines fuel to raise his on-court level, something that Kyrgios has made infamous throughout his polarizing career.

"I don't want to be in those types of situations," Djokovic said. "Yeah, I was flat I guess emotionally. Game-wise I was quite flat for some part of the match, end of second set, most of the third set. Maybe that was needed for me to be shaken up a bit and start to find the kind of intensity on the court that I needed to have all match."
