A legend of tennis has announced his retirement.

Dylan Alcott will say farewell to the sport after the 2022 Australian Open where he will attempt to win his record-extending eighth successive wheelchair quad singles title. The Australian is by far the most successful quad player of all time. Just some of the 30-year-old's accomplishments include: 15 singles Grand Slam titles and he captured a Golden Slam by winning all four majors and the Tokyo Paralympics this year.

Many were stunned by the surprise announcement, wishing Alcott would continue to play.

Even the leader of the Australian Labor Party wished Alcott farewell.

"I feel like I've done everything I need to do on the tennis court," Alcott said at a press conference. "It's been an incredible ride and I think the time has come to move onto other things that I do. In saying that, I'm going to train my arse off for the next two months and try and go out on a high."
