Roger Federer has been spotted in New York City and on the practice court. On Wednesday, he joined Rafael Nadal, Rod Laver, John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg for the Laver Cup press conference.

Federer is in the right city at the right time, but he's on the wrong surface. After cutting his season short, the 17-time Grand Slam champion won't be participating in the US Open for the first time since 1999.

The five-time US Open champion reached the final last year. He is expected to return from his knee-injury hiatus in January.
