Fernandez and Oudin team up for A Day for Puerto Rico

With the world greatly affected by the devastating hurricanes last fall, the tennis community has shown its big heart, helping out and raising money for relief efforts on many occasions.

While Puerto Rico native and Rio 2016 gold-medalist Monica Puig and Maria Sharapova went onto the ground of the island, another Puerto Rican Gigi Fernandez is teaming up with America’s Melanie Oudin for A Day for Puerto Rico.

The two-day exhibition event saw pro-am tennis with Fernandez at the Coosa Country Club in Georgia and on Saturday featured an exhibition match between recently-retired Oudin and fellow American Edina Gallovits-Hall.

Fernandez, a gold medal-winning tennis player for the US, has made helping her native Puerto Rico a major cause, and the exhibition event helped raise lots of money for the island for Hurricane Maria relief as it continues to heal.

Many came out to the club in Georgia to raise money for a good cause and play with Fernandez.

The event was an overwhelming success and with the support of the tennis world and people like Fernandez, Puerto Ricans have some extra hope as they continue to recover from last year’s hurricanes.
