It's been a solid couple of weeks for Gael Monfils, reaching the semifinals in Metz and the final of the Sofia Open just last week. The Frenchman has now officially arrived in California and is gearing up for the Masters 1000 event at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. But before he hit the courts he posed for a quick photo in front of a beautiful mural on the grounds.

Giving a generous smile, he stood in front of a colorful Arthur Ashe mural just outside of Court 1. He took to Twitter to share the art with his almost 800k Twitter followers.

"Success is a journey, not a destination. The doing is often more important than the outcome. #Idol," he wrote on the social platform.

It makes complete sense why Arthur Ashe would be an idol to the world No. 18, as he is the only Black man to capture Grand Slam titles at Wimbledon, Australian Open, and the US Open. He led the way for other Black players and minorities to also find success in the game, Monfils being one of them.

Monfils is the No. 14 seed and received a bye into the second round at Indian Wells. He will take on the winner of Marton Fucsovics and Gianluca Mager.
