Get to know Great Britain's rising star Jack Draper

Great Britain’s Jack Draper scored the biggest victory of his young career Wednesday night in Farfield, CA, defeating Jack Sock 3-6, 7-6 (2), 6-3 at the Northbay Healthcare Men’s Pro Championship. But don’t expect the young Brit to get too pumped up.

Draper is not your average kid. In addition to being the best 17-year-old tennis player in the world according to his Universal Tennis Rating, the rising star is blessed with a perspective far beyond his years. He is simply put, a very chill dude.

“I’m just happy to be here,” Draper told Baseline, “I’m very fortunate in my life to be able to do what I want to do. “I don’t think any of this means what people think it means,” he added, “It’s just a tennis tournament.”

Blessed with an uncanny feel for the game, the sky is the limit for Draper. Long limbed and standing at least 6’3”, Draper is not done growing. A scary thought for a lefty with a pretty serve and great hands around the net.

Draper understands his journey to the top will be a long one, he knows his body and his game have a long way to go, but all the signs point toward success.

“Sometimes it gets frustrating when I am seeing the ball a different way because I’ve grown in one week, but I suppose it’s a good thing I’m not fully developed because there’s still so much to improve,” he said.

Draper will face off against Donald Young on Thursday night for a spot in the quarterfinal.
