Wta - Montreal - Match Highlights - R3 - Jabeur V Andreescu M22306

Squeezing out a three-set win over unseeded Harriet Dart in her Montreal opener, Bianca Andreescu couldn't replicate the same result against crafty Tunisian Ons Jabeur on Thursday night. Despite falling, 7-6 (5), 4-6, 1-6, in the Round of 16 and seeing her hopes of defending the WTA 1000 title crumble, she's staying positive.

Following the tough loss, the 21-year-old gave a refreshing perspective about the game, life and what matters most.

"I first have to realize it's just a game of tennis. I'm only 21," Andreescu told press. "Yeah, I won this tournament before. I know I could have won this tournament again. But sometimes shi* happens and you basically have to move on. That's life."

After claiming the opening set and returning to the court following a lengthy rain delay, Andreescu jammed her toe while chasing down a ball. Although she elected to continue, the injury appeared to affect the 2019 US Open champion's movement. But she's not too worried about it and is thankful it wasn't another serious situation.

"Like I'm healthy. This whole toe situation is whatever, but at least I didn't sprain an ankle or anything like that. I just want to look at the positives," Andreescu said.

It's been a tough year for the Canadian who hasn't strung together more than two consecutive wins since reaching the final at this year's Miami Open. It's been one injury after another since she claimed her maiden Grand Slam in 2019.

Andreescu's ranking has been protected due to the WTA's decision to roll the rankings over a two year timeframe, and because of that has only experienced a slight drop-off. However, her ranking is in danger of dipping significantly since she won both Montreal and the US Open two years ago and is having to defend those points.

It might not be the year she wanted thus far, but Andreescu isn't worried about the past.

"I know that I'm going to bounce back," she said.
