Before this week, Solana Sierra had not experienced the thrill of winning a major main-draw match.

The scenario wasn’t on the table at Wimbledon until Sierra entered the 128-player field as a lucky loser and had 15 minutes to get ready for her opening match with Australia's Olivia Gadecki. By Wednesday evening, the Argentine was standing with a pair of victories in hand.

Stepping out on No. 1 Court, Sierra dashed Katie Boulter’s hopes with her impressive turnaround. The 21-year-old went on to break the world No. 43 eight times from 10 opportunities for a 6-7 (7), 6-2, 6-1 victory.

As Sierra would reveal afterwards during her on-court interview, the win came with another round of logistical housekeeping to take care of.

“I lost in the third round of qualies, so we already changed like three times—the apartment. Now we’re gonna change again because I won,” she laughed.

“But like we say, it’s a good problem.”

A former Roland Garros junior finalist, Sierra opened the 2025 season ranked No. 167. In March, she began training at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca. She’s since celebrated her first WTA 125 title in Antalya and earlier this month, hit the all-important No. 100 on the WTA rankings.

This second-chance run at the All England Club will bring her well inside the Top 100 after becoming the first woman from her nation since Gisela Dulko in 2009 to reach the third round of The Championships.

Said Boulter about Sierra’s display, “I really felt like she played a great match. I felt like she committed to the ball. It was coming through very fast. I felt like I couldn't quite control it. So credit to her. She swung and she won the match.”

A native of Mar del Plata, Sierra’s career prize money prior to this tournament was $450,948. She’s added £152,000 (approx. $207,418.44) to her earnings so far at SW19 and can up that to £240,000 (approx. 327,508.68) by defeating Cristina Bucsa Friday.

“Crazy,” Sierra summed up about the way her week's played out. “Because I was already out of the tournament but yeah, I'm super happy that I took the opportunity.”

No kidding.
