There’s ringing in a new year and then there’s ringing a new year with an extra reason to shout “pojd!”

Petra Kvitova has done the latter, making a special announcement on her social media accounts. The two-time Wimbledon champion revealed she’s expecting her first child with husband and coach Jiri Vanek.

“On the first day of 2024 I wanted to wish you a Happy New Year and share the exciting news that Jiri and I will be welcoming a baby into our family this summer!” Kvitova wrote.

The happy couple tied the knot in their native Czech Republic this past July. Kvitova finished the 2023 season as the year-end No. 14, highlighted by triumphs at Miami and Berlin.

Kvitova is currently entered to play the Australian Open, though did not travel to contest any of the opening week tournaments and yet to comment on her status for the Melbourne major.

In November, Belinda Bencic also revealed she was pregnant. Angelique Kerber just returned from maternity leave on the second day of the United Cup Saturday and fellow mom Naomi Osaka is set to begin her comeback Monday night in Brisbane.
