Head Arthur Ashe Competition 2025

Fifty years ago, Arthur Ashe made history by becoming the first Black man to win the Wimbledon singles title—a victory that transcended sport and inspired generations.

To honor this landmark achievement, Head has released a special Legacy Edition Arthur Ashe Competition tennis racquet.

Inspired by the Head racquet Ashe used in his 1975 victory, this collector’s piece blends heritage details with modern technology to produce a frame that resonates on and off the court.

Ashe was more than a champion. He was a trailblazer who used his platform to fight for racial equality, education and human rights around the world. His grace, courage and conviction forever changed the face of tennis and the role athletes play in social justice. This racquet pays tribute not only to a momentous win, but to a life dedicated to progress.

Although the frame resembles the Head Competition swung by Ashe all those years ago—right down to flourishes on the grip—it has the same makeup and specs of the current Boom MP 2024. Accordingly, no demos of the Ashe frame will be available; players interested in the testing the model before purchasing will have to try the Boom. The 100 square-inch, 10.4 ounce (295g) racquet with a 16x19 string pattern earns high marks for being speedy, comfortable and user-friendly.

The Legacy Edition Arthur Ashe Competition retails for $289 and is currently available at specialty retailers. Each comes with a retro-inspired head cover reminiscent of those from Ashe’s era. A competition-style Arthur Ashe Racquet Bag ($129), capable of storing up to nine racquets, rounds out the collection.

With a limited run of only 2,000 racquets, collectors will have to act fast to snag this tribute to tennis history.
