INDIAN WELLS — Years removed from being viewed as a top contender, Juan Martin del Potro has become one of the biggest threats on the ATP Tour this season.

In Acapulco last week, he beat three consecutive Top 10 players (Dominic Thiem, Alexander Zverev and Kevin Anderson) without dropping a set, marking his first ATP 500 level since 2013.

The key to the 29-year-old's resurgence, which has been gradually going on for around a year, is good health.

"Health is the most important thing in my life," he said on Wednesday. "I'm not talking about my wrist, and that's very important.

"This is my biggest goal for the rest of my career, to stay healthy and to play wherever I want."

The former world No. 4 is feeling so healthy right now that he's also entered the Indian Wells doubles draw with Grigor Dimitrov.

"We love to play together. He's a great guy," Del Potro said about Dimitrov. "We have a good relationship, and also it's good practice for us before a singles match."

Of course, there's also the new $1 million bonus for any player who wins both the singles and doubles draws, but, at least according to Del Potro, that's not why he's playing both.

"You never know what could happen, but we are playing just for our tennis," he said. "That's the only reason."

Del Potro landed in the same quarter of the singles bracket as Novak Djokovic and Marin Cilic. He and Dimitrov will play Marc and Feliciano Lopez in the first round of doubles.
