NEW YORK — Former world No. 20 Daria Saville turned to TikTok for help with a very relatable dilemma: what to wear.

The 31-year-old, who doesn’t currently have a clothing sponsor, found herself staring at a suitcase full of tennis gear before her US Open qualifying match—and came up empty.

“So, I don’t have a clothing sponsor, and if my match outfit looks ugly tomorrow, it’s on me. Because I chose it,” Saville told her 973,000 followers. “Normally if you’re a sponsored athlete, you get your US Open collection, and even if you don’t like it, you have to wear it. So please, help me with my outfit choices!”

Saville—born in Moscow but representing Australia—has previously worked with brands like Asics and Lululemon. She climbed as high as No. 20 in the world in 2017, the year she won her lone WTA title in New Haven. But injuries and long layoffs slowed her progress, and she currently sits at No. 157 in the rankings.

In recent months, she’s leaned into her social media presence to pull back the curtain on life outside the tennis elite. She even called out brands for favoring ATP players’ wives and girlfriends over female players themselves when it comes to partnerships.

“It’s honestly mind-boggling to me that brands are picking influencers for their campaigns during Grand Slams, and I’m definitely not the only female tennis player that feels that way,” she said. In her caption, she added: “Surely there’s space for both WAGs and female tennis players, but I feel like we always get left out.”

On TikTok, Saville modeled three potential looks:

  • A bright pink skirt with either a white or burgundy tank
  • A light blue Lululemon skirt with a white top
  • A cornflower blue skirt paired with a pastel pink tank

Each was styled with white tennis shoes and a visor. “Okay, what do we think? Or should I maybe go shopping?” she asked with a laugh.

Saville’s fans may have helped with the outfit, but unfortunately not the result. Outfitted in pink and burgundy, she fell in the first round of US Open qualifying to Jule Niemeier, 6-0, 6-2.
