Barbie vs Oppenheimer? Amid the biggest movie release of the year, Hubert Hurkacz voted “neither” in a hilarious social media Q&A, as the No. 4 seed enjoyed some downtime at the Mubadala Citi DC Open in the nation's capital.

The Pole is preparing for his first tournament after the post-Wimbledon break, tuning up for the upcoming US Open at the 500-level event. He took the time to host a quick catch-up session with his fans, and confirm his upcoming schedule along the way.

Hurkacz said he “definitely” has plans to play doubles again with Felix Auger-Aliassime, with whom he lifted his first doubles title in Paris-Bercy back in 2021. But their doubles reunion won’t take place at the US Open, with Hurkacz confirming he won’t play doubles at all during the year’s last Grand Slam.

He’s currently partnering Frances Tiafoe in Washington DC, and the pair open against Chris Eubanks and Sebastian Korda in the first round.

The player also revealed his favorite city—Melbourne, where this year he achieved his best Australian Open result with a run to the fourth round.

“I really like Melbourne, but to be honest, most of the time I see tennis courts and hotels, and there isn’t much time to explore.”

Hurkacz took questions from fans in both English and Polish for a few hours on Saturday afternoon, the same day as a Sprint race at the Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix. The Pole discussed his love for race cars and his growing F1 fandom—although he’s still waiting to attend his first race.

“I would love to go watch the race live, but there hasn’t been an opportunity to do it yet,” he explained.

His favorite team is McLaren, he told fans, and there’s no surprise there—Hurkacz has a partnership with the British luxury automaker that allows him to drive McLaren vehicles to and from US tournaments like Miami and US Open. He also named his all-time favorite drivers, including the late Ayrton Senna and, currently, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.

But when it came time to choose between Barbie and Oppenheimer—the biggest box office double release of the year—Hurkacz was quick to opt out of the whole phenomenon. He revealed he hasn’t watched either film yet.

He might have time for a ‘Barbenheimer’ break ahead of his Washington DC start, as he awaits the winner of Michael Mmoh and a qualifier on Tuesday.
