HOT SHOT: Daniil Medvedev return winner from outside the court against Tallon Griekspoor in Dubai quarterfinal

Padel or paddle?

Tecnifibre pros Daniil Medvedev and Iga Swiatek teamed up for a friendly but intense challenge against two of padel's finest players in a hilarious video posted online Friday.

“Daniil, what did you think? We’re professional tennis players,” Swiatek asked Medvedev, who showed off his comedy chops and knack for a prop by bringing a paddleboard to a padel fight.

Tecnifibre padel pros Joel Olivera and Matias Novillo trained the tennis players through three rounds of “teamwork & total chaos.”

The first two rounds focused on return of serves and bajada, a padel-specific shot for when you receive a lob, let it bounce, and hit after it hits the glass, as described by the instructor in the video.

“They surprised me,” Olivera said about Swiatek and Medvedev. “Not with walls—it was horrible.”

After competing against each other in the first two rounds to see which tennis player could better handle padel conditions, the third round saw them team up against the padel pros for a tiebreak.

“I really like the two points that we won,” Medvedev said about their 2-7 tiebreak loss.

“I think I should’ve let Daniil play more because I had a problem even bouncing the ball before my serve,” Swiatek added.

The foursome agreed that more practice could see Swiatek and Medvedev as solid competitors in the cage, although the tennis pros are already back on the tennis circuit kicking off their grass season in Europe.
