NEW YORK — Thanks to the “power of the internet,” Kamil Majchrzak made things right for a young fan at the US Open after a grown man was caught on broadcast stealing his hat in a now viral video.

“A crime was committed here at the Open. I believe it’s known as douchebaggery in the second degree,” Brett Haber said on Tennis Channel Live.

The incident happened after Majchrzak’s dramatic second-round upset of No. 9 seed Karen Khachanov on Thursday. The world No. 76 rallied from two sets down to win 2-6, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-5, 7-6 (5), pulling off the first major upset of the men’s draw.

As Majchrzak celebrated on Court 11, a young fan named Brock asked him for his hat. Majchrzak handed it over—only for a man standing nearby to snatch it out of the boy’s hands, stash it in his bag, and smirk as Brock cried out in despair. Unaware of what had happened, Majchrzak continued signing autographs.

The clip quickly went viral, sparking outrage online. “His character was revealed for all to see,” Jim Courier said. Haber added: “Look, you don’t want to end up on TV stealing stuff from a kid. You can get your own hat.”

Once Majchrzak saw the video, he turned to Instagram for help.

“After the match, I didn’t realize that my cap didn’t get to the boy,” he wrote. “Could you help me find the kid from my match? If it’s you (or your parents see this), please send me a DM.”

It didn’t take long. By Saturday, Majchrzak had tracked down Brock and posted a video of their reunion. The young fan was all smiles as he received signed merchandise—including, of course, a replacement hat.

“I am impressed by the power of the Internet. We got it! All good now,” Majchrzak wrote.

Unfortunately, the Pole’s run ended the same day. He was forced to retire in the third round against Switzerland’s Leandro Riedi, trailing 5-3, and cited a torn intercostal muscle.

“Playing at the US Open requires the best from us tennis players, and today I haven’t been able to compete. I tried, but the pain was too big,” he said in a statement. “Thanks for all your support through all the days and all the kind messages.”
