Madison Keys is poised for her debut at the WTA Finals in Singapore, and the opportunity is well deserved. She’s had a career-best year, in which she cracked the Top 10 for the first time.

The world No. 7 will be coming into the field of the Top 8 best female players in the world fresh from two semifinal showings in Wuhan and Linz.

Her year has also included finishing fourth in Rio, playing the final in Montreal and Rome, and winning her second WTA title in Birmingham.

Not only has the 21-year-old made huge strides on the court, she’s calling attention to a huge issue off it. Online hate messages have reached new heights (or volumes) in the tennis community, and the American isn’t taking it sitting down. As her star power has risen with her ranking, her voice has only grown stronger.

In Singapore, Keys is joined by fellow first-time WTA Finals participants Dominica Cibulkova and Karolina Pliskova. Johanna Konta could join the new faces group unless Svetlana Kuznetsova wins Moscow.

The WTA Finals in Singapore begin on Sunday.
