Konta makes history with career-high ranking

She’ll be the first Brit inside the Top 25 since 1987.

When the new WTA rankings come out next week, Johanna Konta will become the first British woman inside the Top 25 since 1987. Not as bad as their 77-year wait for a men’s Wimbledon champion, but still.

With her run to the @BNPPARIBASOPEN R16, @JoKonta91 will make her Top 25 debut on Monday. 1st Brit in the Top 25 since @Jodurie in 1987.

Konta was one set away from cracking the Top 20 when she split sets with Petra Kvitova in the fourth round of Indian Wells. Still, she seems pretty happy.

The 24-year-old has risen quickly after starting 2015 well outside the Top 100. A summer winning streak saw her upset Garbine Muguruza and Andrea Petkovic to reach the fourth round of the US Open. No one hit wonder, the Australian-born-Brit reached the semifinals (by beating the likes of Venus Williams and Ekaterina Makarova) at the Australian Open. Wimbledon, and the pressure it engenders, beckons.
