After spending the Wimbledon fortnight cheering one another on through their respective SW19 runs, Matteo Berrettini and Ajla Tomljanovic teamed up to celebrate Italy’s comeback win over England at the “2020” UEFA European Football Championship.

Postponed a year due to COVID-19, the final took place in London the same day Berrettini played for his first Grand Slam title at the All England Club, taking a narrow four-set loss to world No. 1 Novak Djokovic. Rather than rush home, Berrettini joined girlfriend Tomljanovic, who enjoyed her own major result by reaching the quarterfinals in women’s singles, to watch his home country win their first Euro title since 1968.

Tomljanovic documented some of Berrettini’s more exuberant moments—including the game-winning penalty kick—on her Instagram story, the level of which tennis fans will recognize from when he watched her overcome Emma Raducanu to make it into the last eight at Wimbledon.

Following the win, Berrettini joined the victorious team on the field and gave a TV interview about his wild sporting weekend.

With Italy’s epic football win in the books, might this inspire Berrettini to an even bigger breakthrough this summer?
