NEW YORK—Mirra Andreeva was a Free Woman on court during her first match at the 2025 US Open, dropping just one game to American Alycia Parks and still riding high from a trip to Lady Gaga’s Mayhem Ball.

“It was amazing,” exclaimed the teenager after a 6-0, 6-1 win. “I’m still impressed by how the show went.”

Andreeva caught Gaga in the midst of touring her latest album; born only a year before the Grammy Award-winning artist released her first album, the No. 5 seed confessed she had some catching up to do.

“We were preparing for the concert. We were listening to a lot of songs to remind our minds of the lyrics,” she explained. “But as soon as the concert started, the atmosphere was amazing. I went with Conchita, my fitness coach, and my agent; the company was great.”

Performing for about the length of a three-set match, Andreeva was struck by Gaga’s athleticism as much as her performance ability.

“I’m just still super, super impressed by how she sang. Two and a half hours is super hard to perform at such a high level.”

Asked to name her favorite songs, Andreeva revealed her fandom for A Star Is Born, the 2018 remake starring Gaga and Bradley Cooper.

“I was waiting for ‘Shallow’ and ‘Die with a Smile,’ said Andreeva. “I like to listen to ‘Always Remember Us This Way.’ Maybe ‘Judas,’ also, is a very nice song!”

Facing Anastasia Potapova for the chance to reach the US Open’s third round for the first time, Andeeva is hoping she finds more of that Abracadabra magic to complete a box set of Grand Slam second-week appearances.

“The two times I played here, I lost in the second round,” Andreeva conceded, adding, “But I mean, in 2023, Ok, you can give me some credit! I was 16 and I lost to Coco and she ended up winning the tournament. Ok, that’s fine. Last year, I lost to [Ashlyn] Kreuger, and she was playing great. It was a really great match from her and I was super nervous, as well, coming into that match.

“I’m just hoping that this time, this year is going to be a little bit different and I’m going to do everything I can to break that curse and move on and stay here just a little bit longer so I can move further into the tournament.”
