Morgan Riddle Fritz Super Bowl 24

After Taylor Fritz’s girlfriend Morgan Riddle opened up about the “scary” harassment she endured from “drunk, rude, gross” fans at the Super Bowl, dozens of users took to social media to share their support—and their own stories.

The influencer was in Las Vegas on Sunday watching the Kansas City Chiefs defeat the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime. But during what should have been a fun and exciting weekend of parties, tailgates and football, Riddle says she and her friends were subjected to unbelievable “levels of harassment” instead.

“Wasn’t going to post about this but I actually think it’s important to,” Riddle wrote in the first of a series of Instagram Stories over the weekend. “I can’t believe the levels of harassment we dealt with this weekend from men. In the last 3 days, I’ve been grabbed, groped, harassed, cat-called incessantly—basically every few minutes when we were out in public.

“And it was really bad at the game today. We couldn’t enjoy the game without getting bothered by drunk, rude, gross male fans. It’s extremely stressful and scary.”

Riddle also revealed that the harassment became so severe during the Super Bowl that she spent most of the third quarter in a bathroom stall at Allegiant Stadium, where she experienced “a panic attack”. Another post featured Riddle wiping away tears, and sharing an anecdote of a 10-year-old boy who appeared mortified by his own father’s behavior toward Riddle.

“I have male sports fans who follow me and luckily I’ve never experienced something like this in tennis, but I just hope any guy reading this understands the gravity of their words and actions. We’re all just here to try and watch a football game,” Riddle added. “Getting grabbed by grown men is scary...”

The posts triggered an outpouring of support and solidarity from her 241,000 followers on Instagram, some of whom messaged Riddle privately to share their own experiences at sporting events.

“Thank you for sharing this. I haven’t been to an NFL game in about six years because I was assaulted in the tunnel,” one user told Riddle. “I used to work in sports PR and have been to millions of events… and I never imagined that happening to me.”

Riddle shared a series of Instagram stories detailing the "scary" harassment she experienced at Super Bowl LVIII.

“As a national TV reporter who’s been in the NFL for over a decade I’m sadly not surprised,” wrote Courtney Fallon, a host at Reach TV, in a comment. “You should never feel that way, and saying no and laying your boundaries with strangers is paramount. We’re with you Morgan.”

“My whole life I had dreams of being a sports reporter, and I lasted a year in the industry because of this,” another user added. “Sending love.”

In another Story, Riddle clapped back at a user who implied that the influencer had brought the harassment on herself with a comment reading: “Maybe it’s the way you dress?” Riddle responded with a snap of her outfit that day—a head-to-toe white denim vest and jeans by Louis Vuitton with a contrasting red-orange bag.

Fritz, currently ranked world No. 9, will be back in action on Wednesday at the Delray Beach Open—his first tournament since the Australian Open—where he starts against Nuno Borges.
