My Tennis Life: Groth trades sun for blizzard

Touring the world as a tennis professional isn't all sunny days and blue skies, on or off the court. Sam Groth had to leave the California desert behind and head to Drummondville (just outside Montreal) for an $75,000 ATP Challenger event.

The world No. 187 arrived to frigid temperatures that turned into a blizzard and over a foot of snow (the tournament is thankfully indoors).

Delivering another behind-the-scenes entry for the Tennis Channel's My Tennis Life series, Groth talked about his week and transition to the great North (he fell to Julien Benneateu in the Indian Wells qualifying draw).

"I landed last night at midnight to a chilly -15 degrees Celsius," Groth said. "I'm still not good with Fahrenheit so I'll let you all work that out, but it's ridiculously cold and a huge contrast coming from California."

He also just split with his coach Joe Sirianni, and is braving the tour solo temporarily.

The Australian was hoping things would go better for him in Canada, despite the below-freezing weather indicating otherwise. He lost in the first round of singles to qualifier Tim Puetz, but is seeded first in doubles with Canada's Adil Shamasdin.
