Unless you’re well-versed in hardcore fitness, there’s a chance you’re not familiar with NOBULL. The company’s trainers are favorites among workout enthusiasts, coveted for their sturdiness, stable platform and straightforward, monochromatic designs. Starting out as something of a boutique label, it has expanded to become the official footwear and apparel brand of CrossFit.

While their shoes are more associated with deadlifts and box jumps than forehands, the company wants to branch out to reach all facets of exercise and sports, including tennis.

“As NOBULL grows, we look for opportunities to design functional footwear that allows our community to train in ways that are meaningful to them, whether in the gym or on the court,” says Michael Schaeffer, co-founder of NOBULL. “The Court Trainer is designed for the dynamic, multi-directional moves you make on any court, whether tennis, racquetball, volleyball, or more.”

Released in April, the Court Trainer is available for both men and women. Just like the brand’s other Trainers, the upper of the Court Trainer features a seamless, one-piece construction of SuperFabric, a highly durable, breathable and abrasion-resistant material. Likewise, it has a 4mm heel-to-toe drop for connected ground contact. It also shares the classic look, complete with the bold, reflective NOBULL logo. However, the Court Trainer also has numerous modifications that make it better suited for the rigors of tennis.

  • The shoe features an optimized toe bumper to handle the many quick pivots and toe-drags.
  • The tongue has additional foam for padding to prevent the laces from biting into the top of the foot during dynamic movements.
  • The lacing system includes internal webbings that bolster lateral and medial stability.
  • The midsole and outsole design provide extra cushioning when compared to the Trainer, for improved shock absorption and comfort during court contact.
  • The extensive herringbone pattern is designed for flexibility, traction and grip on both hard and soft surfaces.

The Court Trainer ($139) comes in four colorways—Black Gum, White Gum, Dusty Rose White and Tropical ($169)—and is available for purchase on the NOBULL website. If you’re the type of player whose workout of the day includes heavy squats followed by best-of-three sets, it could be your perfect training shoe.
