NEW YORK—Novak Djokovic is getting plenty of kudos for winning the 2023 US Open, but among a star-studded crowd assembled on Arthur Ashe Stadium, his most heartfelt congratulations came moments after capturing his 24th Grand Slam title.

Minutes after dispatching 2021 champion Daniil Medvedev in straight sets, Djokovic, who paid tribute to mentor Kobe Bryant in the subsequent trophy ceremony, got a hug from his daughter Tara, who ran courtside to see her father tie Margaret Court for the all-time Grand Slam record.

Djokovic’s youngest child with wife Jelena, Tara was born in 2017 as Djokovic was dealing with an elbow injury that took him off tour following that year’s Wimbledon Championships.

It wasn’t until shortly before Tara’s first birthday that the soon-to-be No. 1 regained his foothold on the sport with a 2018 victory at the All England Club, but since then, the Serb has been all but unstoppable, winning 12 of the last 19 major tournaments he has been able to enter.

Elder son Stefan has also been a fixture on tour since his birth in 2014, calling his father his “hero” in an adorable school assignment and even warming up with dad before Djokovic’s 2023 Roland Garros final.

Sunday’s win over Medvedev means Djokovic has become the first man to win three major titles in one year a record four times, and the sport’s biggest legends have all stood up to take notice, from Rod Laver to Billie Jean King:
