"TVD" is popular shorthand for The Vampire Diaries. The hit supernatural teen drama, which ran from 2009 to 2017, highlighted the vast acting ranges of Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley, who played two vampiric brothers from Mystic Falls, Va.

On Tuesday, in New York, N.Y., Somerhalder and Wesley showed off their range in another way, in conjunction with another acronym: BBB. AKA, Brother's Bond Bourbon.

After a day in Manhattan signing bottles of the spirit they've poured their souls into, the two acclaimed actors poured drinks for adoring fans behind the bar of Hole in the Wall, hard against the East River, and—once they had a moment to enjoy some of their passion project—poured a few cocktail glasses for themselves.

“Our friendship's true bond strengthened while drinking bourbon, both on and off-screen for over a decade,” they wrote. “Brother's Bond is a nod to our on-screen characters, our shared love for great bourbon, and a reflection of the brotherhood we have formed over the years.”

The event, sponsored by Tennis Channel and Santander, took place less than a week from the start of the US Open, across the river in Queens. Ajla Tomljanovic—not the only WTA player that's a huge fan of Somerhalder and Wesley—stopped by for some cheers and photo-ops:

But it wasn't just the bourbon they helped create that drew them to this event. Wesley, for one, absolutely oves tennis.

"I really am a genuine tennis fanatic, not like a phony tennis fanastic," Wesley told Steve Weissman on an episode of Tennis Channel Live. "I met Gael Monfils through friends, we became buddies. It went from following every one of his matches to following every single match.

"I got hit with the bug. I just love it."

The cocktails on offer also highlighted the sport that consumes the city each late August:

  • Limelight Smash: Brother's Bond Straight Bourbon Whiskey/Simple Syrup/Lime Juice/Cucumber Slices/Mint Leaves
  • Brother's Fashioned: Brother's Bond Straight Bourbon Whiskey/Amaro/Simple Syrup/Angostura Bitters
  • Topspin Highball: Brother's Bond Straight Bourbon Whiskey/Ginger Ale, Soda or Tonic

Which drink would you order first?

Of the three, the Limelight Smash gets my top recommendation, but all paired well with the evening's signature liquor.

When it comes to US Open cocktails, the go-to Honey Deuce may have a few challengers.
