On Friday, Naomi Osaka experienced a hiccup in her battle with 18-year-old Marta Kostyuk. Up a set and 3-2 as well as 6-5, she let the Ukrainian back in the match. When she lost the second-set tiebreak, the world No. 10 uncharacteristically hurled her racquet.

"While I was playing I was just cursing myself out, so you wouldn’t want to know what I was saying," Osaka said. "I feel like I have to, I don't know, be more adaptive during the points instead of sitting down and thinking about it. During the games I should be thinking more."

Osaka would still run away with the match, 6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-2 and credited her greater age and experience.

"She was very good; I'm kind of scared of how she’s going to be in the future," Osaka said "I felt a bit lucky because she is young."

The 22-year-old has been sporting heavy tape on her hamstring, an injury she sustained at the Western & Southern open. She was hopeful to get access to the on-site ice bath after it has been deemed for emergencies only.

There was no awkward post-match live call with her mom this time, but Osaka did say she most wants her dad to show up on the virtual fan board.

"Who I most would want to show up on the post-match? Honestly probably my dad, just because he's the one person I can see would never do it," she said. "Like literally anyone in the world, I don't think my dad would be the one to do it."

Osaka did wear another statement mask, this time with a third name, Ahmaud Arbery, as she hopes to get to wear seven different masks to raise awareness.

"None of these deaths had to happen," she said. "I just want everyone to know the names."

She's previously worn Breonna Taylor and Elijah McClain masks. The No. 4 seed awaits the winner of Magda Linette and Anett Kontaveit.
