FLASHBACK: Sabalenka and Badosa faced off in Stuttgart earlier this year, with Sabalenka narrowly winning in three sets.

All work and no play might make for some dull tennis players, and the duo of Paula Badosa and Aryna Sabalenka is anything but dull. The best buddies stepped out in Montreal on Saturday night for a Cirque du Soleil show, were they had the opportunity to watch the high-flying, acrobatic circus act in the city where it was created.

"So much fun last night with my girl @paulabadosa," Sabalenka posted Sunday on X, the social media site formerly called Twitter, with a flutter of emojis that included the universal symbol for "mind-blown."

The two best friends have, in fact, wasted no time catching up in Canada, where they're both competing for the first time since Wimbledon at the Omnium Banque National, the WTA 1000 event that begins Monday.

Before hitting the town for the show, they hit the court for an afternoon practice at the IGA Stadium.

But it would've been understandable if the show didn't have Badosa's undivided attention.

In the aftermath of her boyfriend Stefanos Tsitsipas' victory over Alex de Minaur in Los Cabos, which was also played on Saturday evening, the Spaniard later logged on to fire off a congratulatory message to her beau.

The draw for the Montreal tournament was made Friday, and second seed Sabalenka, who has another chance to take the No. 1 ranking from Iga Swiatek this week, will face either Petra Martic or a qualifier after a first-round bye. If she wins the title and Swiatek loses before the quarterfinals, Sabalenka will overtake Swiatek and reach No. 1 for the first time in her career.

Meanwhile, the unseeded Badosa, who retired with a recurring back injury against Marta Kostyuk in the second round at Wimbledon, will open against No. 11 seed Beatriz Haddad Maia, the defending finalist.
