Alexander Zverev came into the Miami opener against Emil Ruusuvuori as the clear favorite. Not only was he the event's No. 3 seed, but the German also entered the tournament fresh off winning Acapulco—defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final.

Although Zverev appeared in control, taking the first set, 6-1, it was the 21-year-old from Finland that would finish the match on top, posting a 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 scoreline to continue his campaign.

Ruusuvouri, who also played Andrey Rublev last week in Dubai, spoke about having the opportunity to play big names and how much that means to him after his upset win.

"I mean, I got the chance also last week, and it's very good when you can have these chances this often. Today I was able to find a way, and of course I'm really proud that I got the win," Ruusuvouri said to press.

The world No. 83 hung on in the tough points, ran down every shot, and focused on the task at hand from start to finish to notch the biggest win of his carer. With the second quarter of the Miami draw wide open, he will next face world No. 95 Mikael Ymer for a spot in the last 16.
