Another first-time winner during the 2021 season has emerged in Danielle Collins.

The No. 1 seed at the Palermo Ladies Open defeated qualifier Elena-Gabriela Ruse in straight sets to take home her first WTA title on Sunday. The Romanian was on a 12-match winning streak before the American quickly stopped her winning trend.

"It’s given me so much self-confidence to finally win a tournament, because I’ve been on tour now for a couple of years, and that was one of my goals," Collins told the press after her win.

It was a dominating performance all week for the world No. 35. Boasting the title of No. 1 seed beside her name for the first time at a WTA event, she claimed five consecutive matches to win it all.

The 27-year-old is the 14th first-time singles winner on the WTA Tour this season.
