Ranking jumps: Rybakina flies into the Top 50

The past week was a slowdown from the excitement of the US Open. Only a few WTA events were held while no ATP events were played. On top of that, no woman player in the Top 25 made ranking moves as many of them are taking time to recover from New York. However, that doesn't mean that some didn't make strides in their march towards the top:

+20 — Up to No. 69 from No. 49

The main mover in the WTA rankings this week is Rybakina. The 20-year-old leapt over 20 places after making it to the final of the Jiangzi Open last weekend. Despite losing in straight sets to Rebecca Peterson in the final, the Russian took the secondary prize of a career-high ranking inside the Top 50.

+59 — Up to No. 87 from No. 146

Hibino made history after winning the Japan Women's Open in Hiroshima. The 24-year-old's straight sets over Misaki Doi in the final saw her rise 59 places, securing a strong foothold back inside the Top 100.

+26 – Up to No. 52 from No. 78

The Swede won her first career WTA title in Nanchang with a win over Rybakina in the final. With the big leap up the ranks, Peterson matches her career-high ranking of No. 52 which she first reached last year. Peterson was playing in her first WTA final in her first encounter with Rybakina, but handled it with ease, dropping just two games.

No, the ranking isn't wrong. Despite most of the big names not making any moves, Pliskova did win the Zhengzhou Open final over Petra Martic in straight sets, putting her just 86 points behind Ashleigh Barty, the current world No. 1. It's a close race between the two for the year-end top spot, and is worth shining a spotlight on.

+5 — Up to No. 44 from No. 49

Speaking of Zhengzhou, Mladenovic reached the semifinals of the tournament, but was ultimately brought down by Martic who then lost to Pliskova in the final. However, the French woman has almost jumped back into the Top 40 this week. The former world No. 10 won't make any progress this week after losing to Doi in Osaka.
