They say there is no place like home—and for players like Marta Kostyuk and Gabriela Dabrowski, home means great food.

Finding a slice of home on the road can be a challenge on the long WTA Tour grind, but it's one that the 20-year-old from Ukraine and 31-year-old from Canada have aced. Kostyuk—who recently became engaged on a trip to Kiev—is sitting at a career-high ranking of world No. 38 after claiming her first WTA title in Austin, while Dabrowski, who owns 13 doubles titles, currently sits at world No. 7.

We caught up with Kostyuk and Dabrowski at the Citi Taste of Tennis in Miami to share food stories, childhood memories and more:

Kostyuk (left) and Dabrowski dished on dumplings—Ukrainian varenyky and Polish pierogis—sweet bread, seafood and more.

Q: Tell me about a dish that tastes like your childhood?

KOSTYUK: Wait… this is a good question. Let me think. I know these are supposed to be quick! (laughing)

There is this kind of bread (palka, Easter bread), it’s kind of like a brioche. We have it in Ukraine, and I think if I eat the right one this is what would bring me right back to my childhood.

DABROWSKI: Pierogis! Polish pierogis, no doubt.

Q: What is a dish that tastes like home to you now?

KOSTYUK: Anything Ukrainian! Varenyky, borsch, I can’t choose. But just anything Ukrainian.

DABROWSKI: Oh, that’s a good question. If my home was Canada, I’d probably say poutine… with the fries and the gravy. And cheese, but I don’t like cheese! I like it just with the fries and gravy.

And then here in the States, I’m based out of Tampa (Florida)... Let’s see, what do I like? Actually, any fresh-caught fish. There’s some really good seafood in that area, around Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater.

Q: How about a dish that tastes like victory?

KOSTYUK: Probably a burger? Yeah, this is my celebration meal.

DABROWSKI: Salmon sashimi. Or maybe a ceviche? Yeah, we’re in Miami right now so I’ll say a ceviche.

Mark your calendars and clear your plates: Citi Taste of Tennis will be back during the Citi Open in Washington D.C. on July 30 and in New York City ahead of the US Open on August 24.
