Some stars passed on playing in the French Open, while others weren't allowed in. You know all their names. What matters is what took place inside and outside the lines in Paris. On the heels of a fairly predictable and alternately off-the-chain major event, here are the thoroughly vetted, unequivocal–or entirely subjective–best and worst moments from the 2017 French Open.

Juan Martin del Potro got lost on the Roland Garros campus away from the courts but helped other find their way on them, all the way through a third-round loss.

He crossed the net when foe Nicolas Almagro pulled up in injured in one contest, yet another example of his illuminated heart, in the City of Light and elsewhere.

Similarly, Gael Monfils supported countryman Richard Gasquet through his thigh ailment that caused him to retire from an all-French duel in the third round.

Then there was Horacio Zeballos, who carried David Goffin's bag from the court after skidding over a tarp after striking a shot in a particularly grueling point led to an injured ankle for the Belgian shotmaker.

These were but three shining examples of the camaraderie and consideration on display at Roland Garros among these fellow independent contractors of the professional tours.
