Andy Roddick is soon to be inducted into the Hall of Fame for winning 32 titles including the 2003 US Open. Just don’t expect to see his trophies displayed in his home or anywhere else. Roddick’s wife, actress and model Brooklyn Decker, explained that Roddick threw his trophies into the trash.

“He did it one day when I was out of town,” Decker said in an interview with People. “[He] decided that these don’t mean success to me, these don’t define me and I don’t really care to have these material things sitting around the house, so he threw them in the trash. I think he saved a few but they are not on display.”

Was it a rash decision? Roddick admitted that he could have “thought it through a bit more":

Or maybe this was Roddick latent rebellion in being labeled a “millennial" when he may actually be a "xennial." He may just be uncomfortable being typecast into a generation that was commonly handed participation trophies for youth sports.

Whatever the case, it certainly brings to mind the memorable airline commercial he did for American Express in his early years.

These days, Roddick spends a lot of energy for the Andy Roddick Foundation to raise money for children in after-school programs. He participates in exhibitions on occasion, and he is a compelling commentator on TV, Twitter and Periscope.

It seems the 34-year-old would rather let his personality shine than a room full of trophies.
