A young Roger Federer lit up Centre Court during an emotional retirement ceremony attended by Princess of Wales Kate Middleton. Still in the prime of his career, the future 20-time Grand Slam champion is seen longing for a time when he can enjoy all Wimbledon has to offer without the pressures of playing.

Now a global superstar, Federer can aspire to more than a simple “tea time” after officially hanging up his racquets at Laver Cup last fall, and spent the weekend embracing a bourgeoning rock star status alongside the likes of Elton John and Coldplay.

The Swiss Maestro met up with the Rocketman himself in the midst of his farewell tour, which hit Zurich the weekend before Wimbledon began.

Federer also had a night to remember with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, taking the stage and playing along with “Don’t Panic.”

The busy weekend culminated with a return to Centre Court, where Federer first became a rock star when he won the first of eight Wimbledon titles in 2003.

Her Royal Highness, whoo teamed up with Federer to work with the Wimbledon ball boys and girls before this year’s Championships, was seated next to the former No. 1 and his family in the Royal Box.

Though the rain fell around the grounds, Federer kept things sunny beneath the Centre Court roof and action soon got under way for an exciting slate of matches that featured defending champion Elena Rybakina and two-time winner Andy Murray.
