Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic have one of the greatest rivalries in the history of the game. The Serbian recently was bidding to become the first man since Rod Laver to earn the calendar Grand Slam. However, Djokovic lost to Daniil Medvedev in the US Open final, coming just short of history.

After the loss, the Swiss Maestro talked about his rival in an interview with Eurosport, saying that Djokovic had a “truly exceptional” year. Federer also believes that the calendar Grand Slam will happen again, one day.

"I think it is possible that it's going to happen again," Federer said. "We saw it with Novak, myself and Rafa (Nadal) that we come extremely close, but just doing it, I think you need a bit of luck, you need perseverance, strength, you need everything."

Federer has come up short of winning a calendar Slam, winning the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and US Open in 2004, 2006, and 2007. However, Roland Garros has always been a challenge for the world No. 9, as he lost in the Round of 32 in 2004, and fell to Rafael Nadal in both the 2006 and 2007 final rounds.

Federer's return to tennis still remains unclear, but he did mention that the "worst is behind him" over social media.
