After being sidelined for over eight months, Roger Federer posted an encouraging update on social media: the first video of himself hitting forehands again.

It’s a sight for the sore eyes of tennis fans around the world, who await the 20-time Grand Slam champion’s return to tennis following surgery to treat ongoing knee injury. The 40-year-old underwent his third knee surgery in two years in August, and he has not been on court since his quarterfinal exit at Wimbledon last year.

Federer previously confirmed that a tournament comeback would not take place before late summer, ruling him out of Wimbledon. Speaking to Swiss broadcaster SRF at a women’s World Cup ski race, Federer said that his rehabilitation “was progressing well enough that he was now thinking in terms of playing again.”
