Sabalenka celebrates two titles in Ostrava

Aryna Sabalenka really came out on top in Ostrava this weekend. The 22-year-old picked up both the singles and doubles trophies, and celebrated in COVID-19 safe style.

She credited her mental game for her big wins:

"If you can control your mind your thinking then you can control everything," she said.  "I think this is the most important part which I learned and which I still have to improve to be able to compete on this level and to be consistent with my game and with my results."

Sabalenka dismissed Victoria Azarenka 6-2, 6-2 in the final after tough wins over Coco Gauff, Sara Sorribes Tormo and Jennifer Brady earlier in the week.

"I would say in the first matches I was really caring about the results because I didn’t get a title for a long time," Sabalenka said. "As soon as I leave this thinking and just start playing tennis I think I handled my [mentality] really well this week. I was thinking only on things which I can control and it helped me to be really successful this week."

It marks the Belarusian's seventh career WTA title and second of 2020 after winning Doha back in February.

In the doubles final with Elise Mertens, Sabalenka had another straightforward final: they beat Gabriela Dabrowski and Luisa Stefani, 6-1, 6-3. It's their fourth title together in two years.

The big week of wins moves Sabalenka up to No. 11 in singles and sees her stay at No. 5 in doubles. She still plans on playing the final WTA event of 2020 in Linz next month.
