Shapovalov makes rap moves official with new single

Remember this moment in post-match interview history?

That was Denis Shapovalov spitting a few bars last year after his win over Marin Cilic in Indian Wells. Over the past few years, the young Canadian’s love of hip-hop has been shared with the masses in snippets, but now, he’s going all out with the release of his single, “Night Train.”

Multiple themes run through the course of the song, but mainly center around what it means to be a professional athlete on the go and the trappings that come with it.

Musician and personality Redfoo dropped a comment on the Instagram post from “Shapo,” appreciating the line, “Saw a fork in the road, that should help me eat.” There’s some NSFW language in the song—evidenced by the “Parental Advisory” tag on the artwork—which prompted Reilly Opelka to jokingly ask for the clean version in the announcement post.

Shapovalov is the 12th seed at the Western & Southern Open and actually plays Cilic in the first round. If he wins, there’s a rap already prepped for the celebration.
