Sloane Stephens and Toronto FC soccer player, Jozy Altidore are officially husband and wife. The couple that got engaged back in 2019, walked down the aisle and into forever on New Years Day.

PEOPLE confirmed the wedding took place at St. Regis Bal Harbour in Miami Beach, Florida in front of their family and friends. In order to keep everyone safe during the on-going pandemic, the couple only allowed fully vaccinated guests and all were required to self test at home with Lucira PCR tests. In addition, each guest was tested the morning of their special day.

The added measures didn't frustrate Stephens, but rather made her appreciate how flexible her loved ones were.

"I empathize with all the COVID couples out there who have had to make the tough calls and be flexible with the ever-changing pandemic," Stephens told PEOPLE. "We've all had to be super flexible, and I appreciate how accommodating our loved ones have been in making sure we have as safe and special a day as possible."

Altidore feels the same way and even said the past couple of years have served as a time of reflection.

"I've loved reflecting on all of the moments that culminated to this day and how we've arrived at this life-changing moment. It's been so nostalgic to go down memory lane and revisit all the moments that brought us to this time in our lives. It's made me fall in love with Sloane all over again," he said.

Stephens wore a beautiful custom Galia Lahav couture dress with Amina Muaddi shoes. The look was pulled together by a stunning crystal headpiece by Maria Elena. Altidore went with a Dior tuxedo and Christian Louboutin shoes.

When asked what they are most excited about heading into married life, the pair agreed that being with their best friend each and every day takes the cake.
