Social media unearths snapshot of 8-year-old Coco Gauff watching Venus Williams

Gauff reposted the clip by saying in part "...your dreams are closer than you think."

A throwback to an 8-year-old Coco Gauff at the US Open is once again going viral.

In the aftermath of her first Grand Slam victory in New York last summer, a clip of Gauff dancing in Arthur Ashe Stadium to Carly Rae Jepsen's hit song "Call Me Maybe" during the tournament's annual Arthur Ashe Kids' Day in 2012 broke the internet, and this week, social media unearthed another heartwarming moment of a young Gauff at the tournament.

An eagle-eyed social media user spotted Gauff's younger self sitting courtside in Arthur Ashe Stadium during Venus Williams' first-round win at that year's tournament over fellow American Bethanie Mattek-Sands. A visor-wearing 8-year-old version of the now-WTA world No. 3 can be clearly seen sitting behind Williams during the 6-3, 2-1 changeover.

"If this isn't proof that your dreams are closer than you think, then idk [I don't know] what is," Gauff wrote on X while sharing the moment to her own followers.

The American later reposted the original X post from a user named Isaac, thanking the fan for finding it, and the snapshot quickly went viral after Gauff's acknowledgement.

As of this writing, that post which first shared the screenshots has been viewed more than 1.4 million times, and Gauff's posts of the moment have a combined 1.6 million views.

"wow wow wow. how did anyone find this omg," Gauff also replied.

After her crowning moment in Queens last year, Gauff spoke candidly about what she would tell the younger version of herself found in those videos and screenshots.

"... That little girl, she had the dream, but I don't know if she fully believed it," Gauff said in her champion's press conference. "As a kid, you have so many dreams. You know, as you get older sometimes it can fiddle away. I would tell her don't lose that dream.

Honestly, I felt like I lost a little bit of the dream as this journey has gone. I would tell her don't lose the dream. Keep having fun. ... I would just tell her just keep working hard and keep believing in that dream and don't let the doubters diminish that."
