World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty has become the first woman to record 40 tour-level wins this year, reaching the milestone on Sunday afternoon with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Swiss lefty Jil Teichmann in the final of the WTA 1000 event in Cincinnati.

Barty is now 40-7 on the year with five WTA titles, having already won Wimbledon, another WTA 1000 in Miami and two WTA 500s in Melbourne and Stuttgart.

By winning her semifinal match against Angelique Kerber on Saturday, Barty broke a four-way tie for most tour-level wins for a woman this year with Aryna Sabalenka, Barbora Krejcikova and Ons Jabeur, who are all still tied at 38.

Barty is the fourth player, male or female, to reach 40 tour-level wins this year.
